Independent journal · by Jonathan Iker Zamarripa
Cinematic Learning Systems
An independent journal on the changing conditions of learning, expertise, and experience design.
The production conditions of learning have changed. The design epistemology hasn’t caught up yet. That gap is the work.

A close-up isn’t prettier. It’s attentional narrowing. We just never called it that in learning design.

02 · The Framework
Cinematic Learning Production Framework (CLPF)
v1.0 · Published Foundational Architecture Document, May 2026
A practitioner-theorist framework. It is not empirically validated, does not claim that production quality causes learning, and was developed in enterprise contexts rather than claimed as universal.
Four systems
- Strategic & Narrative
- World & Production
- Cognitive & Behavioral
- Enterprise & Scaling
Eight governing axioms (v1.0)
| No. | Axiom | Status, October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | The Architecture Is the Intervention. The experience design is the learning intervention, not a delivery vehicle. | Holds |
| 02 | Transformation Precedes Transfer. Narrative absorption → cognitive reorganization → emotional investment → intention → transfer. | Holds; enterprise transfer unproven |
| 03 | Emotional Salience Is Structural. | Holds |
| 04 | The Learner Is Always the Protagonist. | Holds |
| 05 | The Transparency Paradox. Craft should dissolve the boundary between learner and experience. | Under revision |
| 06 | Production Conditions Shape Design Epistemology. | Strengthened (Issue 4) |
| 07 | The System Must Outlast the Project. | Holds |
| 08 | The New Professional Identity Is a Systems Architect. | Holds; needs competency evidence |
Status reflects the author’s own review of each axiom.
Named gaps
- Gap 1 Equity and access Critical
- Gap 2 Measurement High
- Gap 3 Ethics of emotional design High
The Master Question
Is this claim true because it’s grounded in something stable about human beings, or because of what current tools can do?
03 · The Studio
Signal Through Static
A build-in-public series documenting a mock cinematic learning experience for frontline managers leading teams through organizational change, annotated against CLPF as it is built. An independent project, not client work. Its guide character is Signal.

Field logs
- Field Log 001 Designed, not run
A pilot comparing a generic-hostility counterpart with a cue-bearing counterpart whose hidden state varies, for newly promoted shift leads. No results exist yet; null results will be published. Seeking a frontline-supervisor pilot partner.

The Other Person in the Room
Grows from the question at the center of Issue 07: “Who is the other person in the scene, and why do our practice scenarios treat him as a prop?” Conferences, panels, podcasts, and guest lectures.
