Streamlining Onboarding: Priority Product Primer for New Employees

Project Overview:
The New Employee Onboarding: Priority Product Primer was designed as a comprehensive Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) and eLearning course to introduce new employees to Priority Commerce's core products: e|tab®, PayRight Health, and MX™ Merchant Suite. This multi-modal solution ensures effective knowledge transfer, product familiarity, and real-world application to enhance onboarding experiences.

New Employee Onboarding: Priority Product Primer

Goal:
To equip new employees with a clear understanding of Priority Commerce’s products and their functionalities, enabling them to confidently apply this knowledge in customer interactions and their roles.

Solution:
The project applied ADDIE Model principles alongside Mayer's Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning to create an effective and engaging learning experience:

  1. Analysis:
    • Identified new hires as the target audience with minimal product knowledge.
    • Focused on concise delivery within time constraints: a 5-minute VILT presentation followed by a 10-minute eLearning course.
  2. Design:
    • Content Chunking: Divided into three manageable product modules for clarity.
    • Applied Mayer’s principles:
      • Multimedia Learning: Combined visuals, audio narration, and interactive elements.
      • Segmenting: Each product is introduced separately with quizzes and scenarios.
      • Coherence: Content remained clear, structured, and free of distractions.
  3. Development & Implementation:
    • Created a visually engaging PowerPoint presentation aligned with the VILT session.
    • Developed a 10-minute eLearning course featuring:
      • Interactive quizzes: Reinforce knowledge with gamified multiple-choice and drag-and-drop activities.
      • Click-to-Reveal Features: Encouraged active participation.
      • Real-Life Scenarios: Contextualized product benefits for learners.
  4. Evaluation:
    • Post-session feedback was collected to assess understanding and engagement.
    • Results informed iterative improvements for future onboarding sessions.

Learning Design Relevance:
This project demonstrates key instructional design skills:

  • Systematic Design (ADDIE): Addressed audience needs through a structured approach.
  • Effective Content Delivery: Combined multimedia theory with real-world examples to optimize retention.
  • Engagement through Interactivity: Gamification, quizzes, and scenarios maintained learner focus.
  • Evaluation and Improvement: Incorporated feedback loops to refine future onboarding.

Outcome:
The onboarding experience delivered tangible results:

  • Improved Product Familiarity: New hires gained confidence in understanding and communicating product benefits.
  • Engaged Learners: Interactive components and relatable scenarios increased active participation.
  • Scalable Solution: The eLearning module serves as a repeatable, self-paced resource for future onboarding cohorts.

In addition to the eLearning course, I developed a PowerPoint presentation to support the VILT session. Key features include:

  • Structured Outline: Each slide aligned with the learning objectives, introducing products in manageable chunks.
  • Visual Appeal: Graphics, screenshots, and icons to enhance understanding and engagement.
  • Interactive Support: Designed for live Q&A and follow-up discussions to reinforce learning.
